Crime Writing with April Henry - Fall 2010

Crime Writing with New York Times Bestselling Author April Henry

Commit the perfect crime: learn to write a mystery, thriller or suspense novel. Millions of people read mysteries – why not a mystery written by you? Currently, 8 of the top 10 New York Times hardcover bestsellers and 6 of the top 10 paperbacks are mysteries, thrillers or suspense novels.

Whether you’re a beginning writer or already have a work in progress, you will benefit from this supportive, results-oriented workshop led by an author who will be publishing her tenth book as the class beigns. Through writing assignments, discussions on craft, and instructor and peer feedback, you’ll learn the fundamentals of crime writing. By the time class ends, you’ll discover how to choose point-of-view, develop characters, write dialog, increase tension, and plant clues, as well as critical techniques for self-editing. You’ll also learn practical tips for attracting the right agent. This is a highly interactive class – so be prepared to write, read, and talk.

Sundays, September 12 - November 7, 7:00-8:30 PM in the Lit Loft at Annie Bloom's.

$299 for nine weeks. $60 deposit; balance due by the first night of class.

Class size is limited to eight students - only two spots left!

Here’s what some participants in a workshop last year had to say:

“Thank you for giving such a great workshop. You set a wonderful tone, and brought in so much good information.”

“Thank you so much for providing the opportunity to share our work and take risks and for providing real feedback (not just the feel-good kind that doesn't help you become better at the craft of writing...). This was exactly what I needed to get me back into the game.

April Henry is the author of nine award-winning mysteries and thrillers, including the New York Times bestseller Face of Betrayal (with co-author Lis Wiehl) with contracts for seven more. She also reviews mysteries for the Oregonian and has written for Writers Digest and The Writer.
